iPhone 'sells out' after price cut

Carphone Warehouse and the mobile phone company O2 have completely sold out of the standard version of Apple's iPhone after slashing prices last month.

O2 has the exclusive network rights to the phone in the UK with Carphone Warehouse as its high street partner.

Officially, both firms say they are "reviewing stock situation".

'Free' music service goes live

One of the world's biggest record labels has made its complete back catalogue of songs available free over the internet for the first time.

Sony BMG, which is the home to artists like Britney Spears and Michael Jackson, has signed a deal with the music website We7.

Users can listen to 250,000 songs for free but have to wait for a 10-second advert between each track.

Mac sales push up Apple profits

Profits at US technology giant Apple have jumped 36% as consumers snap up its MacBook computers and iPods.

The firm made a net profit of $1.05bn (£0.53bn) in the quarter ended 29 March, compared with $770m in the same period a year earlier.

MySpace in online music project

Networking site MySpace is to launch an online music service in partnership with three major music companies.

The new service MySpace Music is being launched with Universal Music, Sony BMG Music and Warner Music.

Microsoft wants to purchase Yahoo

Microsoft has offered to buy the search engine company Yahoo for $44.6bn (£22.4bn) in cash and shares.

The offer, contained in a letter to Yahoo's board, is 62% above Yahoo's closing share price on Thursday.

Yahoo cut its revenue forecasts earlier this week and said it would have to spend an additional $300m this year trying to revive the company.

It has been struggling in recent years to compete with Google, which has also been a competitor to Microsoft.
