The two British tourists hospitalised by yeseterday’s explosion have now been named as honeymooning couple, Christian and Jennifer Donelan. The couple had checked out of their resort and were due to fly to Qatar where they are resident last night, the Telegrapgh reported.

British High Commission representative John Culley is now present in Malé but is declining to comment to the press, as are the couple.

Eight Chinese tourists who received superficial cuts yesterday have been flown home after their Government dispatched an airliner, a Chinese embassy official confirmed from Colombo.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said yesterday it will modify its travel advice in the aftermath of the explosion. But the Chinese embassy said it has no plans to follow suit.

This will be welcome news for tour and resort operators, who have been in nervy mood in Malé today.

A Thomas Cook representative, told Minivan News "No cancellations have been received so far, although there could be some to follow, we cannot be sure.”

The majority of those injured yesterday were staying on resorts owned by the Universal Company, but a company marketing representative said she had not received any cancellations today.

“We would encourage tourists they are totally safe on our isolated islands. They have nothing to fear," she told Minivan News.

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi, Manager of the Full Moon Resort which hosted the now departed Chinese tourist, said, "there will not be a huge impact on the tourism industry. We briefed our guests, and all are continuing their stay here."

Meanwhile the police say they are continuing investigations but are refusing to reveal further details.

Tourism Minister Dr Shaugee is in contact with police commission Adam Zahir but said, “I am unsure of the magnitude of police inquiries, and how many more people may or may not be involved.”
