The longest, ring-like solar eclipse of the millennium started on 15 January 2010 Friday , with astronomers saying the Maldives was the best place to view the phenomenon that will not happen again for over 1,000 years. This is the longest solar eclipse of the millennium.

Maldives president answers key questions on live radio
In the first ever live call-in with a serving president, President Mohamed Nasheed took questions from the public on local radio channel DhiFM’s one-to-one program on Friday. President Nasheed addressed a number of issues and answered questions on subjects ranging from election pledge’s of the government, the electricity tariff hike and media subsidies.
Commonwealth to Observe Maldives Parliamentary Elections
Team has been constituted at the invitation of the Maldives Elections Commission. A Commonwealth Expert Team will observe the Parliamentary Elections due to take place on 9 May 2009 in the Maldives, Commonwealth Secretary-General Kamalesh Sharma announced today.
Maldives screens visitors for swine flu
The Maldives authorities have screened more than 4,000 passengers who arrived in Maldives via air have been screened for Swine Flu at the Malé International Airport according to the Health Ministryt reported the daily news paper Haveeru.
Dhiraagu Maldives launches AeroMobile service
Maldives telecommunications operator has launched the AeroMobile service for its customers. AeroMobile is a mobile roaming service on aircrafts enabling the subscribers to make calls or send SMS when roaming.
AeroMobile service does not require registration and charges will be billed to the subscriber’s Dhiraagu mobile bill as roaming charges.
