Bank's U-turn on student charges

A student campaign using the social networking website Facebook has forced an international bank into a U-turn over charges.

HSBC is to abandon plans to scrap interest-free overdrafts for students leaving university this summer.

University 'non-courses' attacked

Hundreds of university "non-courses" should be abolished as a waste of public money, a group campaigning for lower taxes has said.

A report from the Taxpayers' Alliance highlighted 401 such courses starting this autumn in the UK, which it said cost £40m a year to run.

With a high IQ comes need for special education

I define the "intellectually gifted" as those individuals who can stand out in almost any profession. Research indicates an IQ of at least 120 is usually needed to achieve this. This covers the top 10 per cent of the IQ distribution, or about a million people out of Australia's total labour force.

The UK could lose its place at the top of world university rankings within 10 years, the vice-chancellor of Cambridge University has warned.
