Bhutto hints at power-share deal

Former Pakistani PM Benazir Bhutto has said she expects a breakthrough on Thursday on power-sharing talks with President Pervez Musharraf.

Ms Bhutto said in London that she expected to be given an amnesty on corruption charges against her.

Battles flare in Sri Lankan north

Sri Lanka's military says it has killed 12 Tamil Tiger rebels and wounded 36 others in clashes in the north-west.

Troops fired on rebel positions with artillery and mortars near Mannar. Four soldiers were wounded, the army said.

Musharraf details election terms

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf will stay on as head of the army if he is not elected for another presidential term, his lawyer says.

Speaking in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, the lawyer was clarifying the general's conditional promise to remove his military uniform.
